\u200bNew America\u2019s Fellows Program\u00a0invests in thinkers\u2014journalists, scholars, filmmakers, and public policy analysts\u2014who generate big, bold ideas that have an impact and spark new conversations about the most pressing issues of our day.<\/p>\r\n

In an age where journalism is dominated by the 24-7 news cycle, and academia is becoming ever more esoteric, our fellowships provide opportunities for talented individuals who need support to pursue more ambitious endeavors. Books. Films. Photo essays. Longform storytelling. Policy projects. Work that gets to broad audiences and changes the way we think. Voices that represent the diverse backgrounds and ideologies of the American community.<\/p>\r\n

New America fellows are selected on a highly competitive basis and serve\u2014most on an adjunct basis, some full-time\u2014for a one-year term. During that period, we aim to give them an intellectual home where they have the time, space, and resources to pursue their projects; a community where they can learn from one another; and opportunities to engage with others at New America and help shape the longer-term agenda and focus of our organization.<\/p>\r\n

Since New America\u2019s founding in 1999, the Fellows Program has awarded nearly 300 fellowships to talented journalists, scholars, filmmakers, policy analysts, and others pursuing creative and public-minded projects.<\/p>\r\n

Our program has supported incredible work and helped to launch dozens of careers. Among other projects, our fellowship has supported and enabled the publication of more than 150 books, including nearly 80 by first-time authors. Several of our New America Fellows have become\u00a0New York Times<\/i>\u00a0bestsellers or have gone on to win or be finalists for the Pulitzer Prizes, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.<\/p>\r\n
