Who benefits, and who gets left behind? How are workers and students, state and local governments, education providers, and economic development leaders navigating the impact of technological change on the labor market? These are among the most important stories in the country right now, and they\u2019re underreported.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fellowship supports early- and mid-career journalists producing in-depth reporting that examines these types of questions. Fellows will receive the following support from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work Shift<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and New America\u2019s Future of Work &amp; Innovation Economy initiative:<\/span>\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$5,000 stipend, plus an expense budget<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Editorial coaching and professional development<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access to expert sources and data resources<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storytelling amplification opportunities\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEconomic development and opportunity are highly regional\u2014jobs are created and people lead their lives in specific cities, towns, and rural communities,\u201d said <\/span><b>Elyse Ashburn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, co-founder and editor of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work Shift<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cYet most coverage of these issues takes a national view, with aggregate data and sweeping narratives that flatten the differences between a factory town in Wisconsin and a tech hub on the coast. This fellowship will help change that.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt a time when hype cycles and conjecture can dominate news cycles around the interplay of technology, the economy, and the workforce, now more than ever, we need realities captured from those closest to the ground,\u201d said <\/span><b>Shalin Jyotishi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, founder and director of New America's Future of Work &amp; Innovation Economy initiative. \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to partner with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Work Shift <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to support more of that storytelling across the nation.\u201d<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fellowship is made possible by support from <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ascendiumphilanthropy.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ascendium Education Group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and reflects the nonprofit\u2019s commitment to strengthening journalism at the critical intersection of education, economic development, and the future of work.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b>Fellowship Details<\/b>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fellowship will run from September 2026 through August 2027 and is open to U.S.-based print, online, radio, TV, multimedia, and independent journalists.
